Dhul Hijjah is a month full of blessings. Therefore, one must try to collect as many blessings as one can. To prepare ourselves for the blessing of Dhul Hijjah, here is a simple checklist of 5 things we can do during Dhul Hijjah to receive the blessings of this month. From repenting our sins to giving eid al adha donations, there is plenty of useful information in this link for you!
RepentanceAs human beings, we all commit sins knowingly or unknowingly. However, we should not feel hopeless as the mercy of Allah is immeasurable. So we should take this opportunity to seek forgiveness and repent for our wrongdoings. Don’t let the despair lower your morale. One must do dhikr throughout Dhul Hijjah. Beautifying the dhikr is an additional way to get an extensive reward. There are various forms of performing Dhikr. Some of them are:
Tasbeeh (glorification of Allah-Subhan Allah), Tahmeed (Praise be to Allah- Alhamdulillah), Takbeer (greatness of Allah- Allahu akbar), Tahleel (La ilaha illa llah)
Reciting the above four types of dhikr during the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah is a Sunnah.
Fasting the first nine days
According to ahadith, fasting on the day of Arafah is atonement for the minor sins of two years. Hence, it is an excellent occasion to seek mercy from Allah, whose mercies are infinite. A gentle reminder- fasting is not only about refraining from food and water; it also includes avoiding sinful behaviors such as backbiting, anger, and indecency. Fasting requires patience, and the Holy Quran states: “…Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account." (39:10)
Reciting Quran in solitude
In this competitive world, we indulge ourselves too deeply in worldly matters. Allah blessed us with sacred months and days as a reminder of our ultimate goal. While busy in the race towards success, wealth, and fame, we often forget about the contentment and peace we find in spirituality. During these holy days, try to free yourself from worldly worries. Organize your time and find moments of solitude for reciting the Quran.
Give Charity
Dhul hijjah donations are a perfect way of maximizing your blessings during this. You can give to charity many options, both online and offline. Transparent Hands is one organization you can consider giving your charity money to. The trust organization works for the welfare of patients who cannot fund their medical and surgical treatments and hail from underprivileged backgrounds. Through the Transparent Hands crowdfunding portal, donors can donate to any campaign or cause that appeals to their hearts. So, now you know where you can give your Dhul hijjah donations. In fact donations that you make are going to maximize your chances of getting closer to Allah (SWT).
Offering sacrifice
Believers are encouraged to do more righteous deeds during the blessed days of Dhul Hijjah. Sacrificing the livestock animal between the morning of the 10th Dhul Hijjah and the evening of the 13th Dhul Hijjah is one of the highly virtuous deeds. Offering an additional sacrifice on behalf of the poor or paying off someone’s debts are also ways to gain the bounties and unbounded mercy of the Most Exalted. Qurbani reflects compassion and sympathy.
“It is not their meat, nor their blood, that reaches Allah; it is their piety that reaches Allah.” (22:37)
It should also be kept in mind to refrain from showing off wealth and competing against others in sacrificing animals.
“O you who have believed, do not invalidate your charities with reminders or injury as does one who spends his wealth [only] to be seen by the people and does not believe in Allah and the Last Day….” (2:264)
“And [also] those who spend of their wealth to be seen by the people and believe not in Allah nor the Last Day. And he to whom Satan is a companion – then evil is he as a companion.” (4:38)
